Where to buy Gattinara DOCG directly from the producer
Gattinara DOCG is rarely found in supermarkets, and our wines are not there at all. The appellation counts a small number of producers and a limited vineyard area on the volcanic hills of Alto Piemonte: many bottles are sold directly at the winery, through producers' online shops and in selected wine stores. For those looking for an authentic Gattinara, the most direct route is also the simplest: buy it from the people who make it.
Buying directly from the producer has three concrete advantages. The first is provenance: the bottle comes from the cellar where it was born, stored correctly from harvest to shipment. The second is price: with no intermediaries, the producer's list price is generally the best for the same label. The third is advice: the person who made the wine can tell you which vintage to drink now and which to keep for a few years.
Our winery sells Gattinara DOCG in three ways. The first is direct sale at the winery, at Corso Valsesia 162 in Gattinara (VC), Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm and Sundays by appointment: you taste with us and choose at your own pace. The second is the official online shop at www.anzivino.it, with VAT-included prices and shipping across Italy directly from the winery. The third is the selected wine shops that carry our wines.
For international orders, we ship to countries where regulations allow wine to be shipped without an importer: just write to us at info@anzivino.it and we take care of everything. Bottles travel in packaging designed for wine, in boxes of 3 or 6.
A practical tip: if Gattinara intrigues you but you have never tasted it, a tasting at the winery is the best way to choose. For 20 euros you taste 3 wines, for 30 you get 5 including the "Cesare" Riserva, and for 40 euros per person you add a guided tour of the cellar. You go home knowing exactly which bottle is right for you, and it is a great excuse to discover Gattinara and Alto Piemonte.
Production is deliberately limited: 20,000-25,000 bottles per year depending on the vintage, with fully manual harvesting and long aging in large oak barrels. Some labels, such as the "Cesare" Riserva, are produced only in the best vintages and sell out quickly. If you want a specific bottle, it is best not to wait too long.
