Nebbiolo, an hour from Milan

Gattinara is about an hour from Milan, some eighty kilometres of motorway to the north-west: here, at our winery at Corso Valsesia 162, we taste Alto Piemonte Nebbiolo with you every day, Sundays included, in the morning and late afternoon. The Nebbiolo hills closest to Milan

Anyone in Milan who thinks of Nebbiolo almost always thinks of the Langhe, about two hours’ drive away. Closer, to the north-west of the city and at the foot of Monte Rosa, lies Alto Piemonte: hills of volcanic origin where Nebbiolo has been grown for centuries and gives wines of clear minerality and long life, such as Gattinara DOCG.

This is where our winery was born in 1998, in the centre of Gattinara: just over four hectares of vineyards, around 25,000 bottles a year and a production strongly focused on Nebbiolo.

Getting here from Milan

By car, take the A4 towards Turin and then the A26 towards Gravellona Toce, as far as the Romagnano Sesia-Ghemme exit: from there it is ten minutes to Gattinara and our courtyard, with free parking on the street. From central Milan the journey takes about an hour and ten minutes, an hour from Rho and the Fiera, traffic permitting.

If you land at Malpensa, you are with us in about forty-five minutes, and the winery can be the first stop of your trip.

Emanuele Anzivino leads a tasting at the winery in Gattinara

Half a day, or a whole day

A tasting lasts about an hour, an hour and a half with the cellar tour, and fits naturally into a day out of Milan: leave in the morning and you arrive for the morning tasting, with the afternoon free for Lake Orta, half an hour from us, or for the Sacro Monte di Varallo; leave after lunch and you taste in the late afternoon and are back in the city for dinner.

We are open on Sundays too, and if you would rather not get back on the road after tasting, you can stay the night: the five rooms of Il Cortile are in the same building as the winery, and in the morning breakfast is waiting in the Tinaia.

A road we know well

The Anzivino family is of Milanese origin: in 1998 Emanuele chose Gattinara and its volcanic hills, a territory historically devoted to Nebbiolo, and founded the winery in a historic nineteenth-century distillery, abandoned for years in the centre of town.

Today he runs it together with his son Andrea, and those who visit the cellar taste the wines directly with the people who make them.

Sleep in the winery courtyard

The rooms of Il Cortile are in the same building as the winery, inside the 1862 distillery: you taste, walk up to your room, and in the morning breakfast is waiting in the Tinaia. Direct rate, no intermediaries.
